Ashfield Healthcare are excited to be working with Santen to recruit a Strategic Business Partnerships manager  ( EMEA ) This role for Santen EMEA, is dedicated to the management of the business and relationships in markets where Santen does not operate directly through an affiliate. The successful candidate, will be taking care of creating new business or following up and growing existing ones or revamping and challenging other businesses and partnerships.


Founded in Japan 1890, Santen is one of the oldest ophthalmic pharmaceutical companies and has a long tradition of patient-centred care. Santen offers an extensive track record in developing new products tailored for specific patient needs. The desire to contribute to the quality of life of people not only in Japan, but also around the World, encouraged Santen Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. to begin in developing its worldwide presence in the 1990's.


  • Experience in sales of pharmaceutical products (Key Account management ): 3 years.
  • Marketing experience is preferred. Product Manager or similar: 3 years.
  • Excellent personal and customer relationship skills.
  • Entrepreneurial, proactive and problem solving attitudes.
  • Previous work experience in Middle East: advantage.
  • Previous work experience in ophthalmology: advantage.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written. Other languages, namely Arabic or French, represent an additional advantage.
  • Willingness to travel.

A summary of the main tasks and responsibilities ( but not limited to ) are listed herein below:


  • Establish business models and local partnership per market or per product(s).
  • Negotiate new contracts or re-negotiate existing ones to improve any contractual gap or lack of performance/results.
  • Monitor contractual obligations for both parties
  • Responsible for defining, internally and with external partners of sales, promotional and expenses budgets.
  • P&L responsibilities: forecasts and sales evolution monitoring and corrective measures implementation, per market and/or per product(s), to guarantee achievement of sales budgets and securing minimum-targeted profit. Both ex-Santen and in-market.
  • Marketing and sales plans elaboration, implementation and monitoring. In strict collaboration with the respective marketing responsible person(s) in Santen, the external marketing colleague(s) working at partner company and in line with the approved corporate marketing plans and guidelines.
  • Scientific events and congresses:  Plan for local and/or regional events and lectures, which will be proposed to the respective medical responsible person(s) in Santen and in line with the corporate medical communication plan.
  • Regular business reviews, through monthly TCs and field visits to markets, with local partners.
  • Liaise with local marketing and sales colleagues, source and share internally information collected from the field.
